Dear Shiva: Temple Gates

Temple Gates

Guest Blog by Lisa Schrader

Dear Shiva

Listen to these words on my lips.

You stand before her gates, seeking
sanctuary, solace and union.

This gateway serves
to protect the sacred temple within,
her delicate, innermost chambers, deep inside.

We all know that the long, dark tunnel delivers us
eventually,
a pin dot of light growing bigger and
finally enveloping us,
love’s brilliant embrace.

But gifts so precious must be guarded.

So come here not rushed and demanding,
jangling your impatience like rusty keys,
banging on her temple gates with your entitlement,
seeking absolution from your sins and suffering,
eager to escape the harsh glare and dusty noise of the street.

She knows why you are here.
She called you here.

Place yourself humbly before her gateway, pulling your disparate self together. Breathe.
Feel the root of your silent potency growing stronger. Relax into reverence and delight,
staying awake to her arrival.

She will feel your desire and devotion.
She will hear the steady drum of your pulsing heart.
She will trust the wisdom in your worship.

And then, when you no longer need anything,
her temple gates will silently glide open
and you will feel that cool clean darkness
welcoming you
IN.

Yours,

Shakti
